It was February when I first moved to this city, and since then I’ve worked right in the middle of the action, on a desk in an open-floor office on High Holborn. Last week I received some great news: my firm is finally moving from serviced accommodation into an building of our own. My new place of business is the old PriceWaterhouseCoopers office on Andrew Street, City of London, and it’s colossal. With a move date scheduled for August 1st, JAM Recruitment is finally getting the premises necessary to really compete in London. I’m also promised that this move will be accompanied by the arrival of much better IT Systems and a new database!
I, too, am moving, with new accommodation signed for in South Woodford, the once home of Clement Attlee, present home of Tony Robinson and formerly Churchill’s constituency. As well as being considerably cheaper than my present house in Kensal Green, it’s a much nicer and safer area. Local attractions include numerous trendy bars, and George’s Fish and Souvalki Bar, regarded as serving the best Fish & Chips in London. There are also a number of parks and wide open spaces, not least of which is Epping Forest. Walking around, it feels like a leafy suburb in The Midlands and a lot more like home than where I live at the moment.
I move in at the beginning of next month, but I’ve already met some of my housemates and they seem like pleasant enough people to spend time with. As a big bonus, this place actually has an oven and a grill! There is also a large paved back yard; great for barbecues. All in all, I wish I’d discovered the nicer parts of East London when I first moved here! My room is absolutely tiny, but it’s well worth the sacrifice on size for the improvement in quality of life. South Woodford is actually 20 miles from where I work, but direct transport via the Central Line means it’s a faster commute (26 minutes).
Watch this space for further updates about South Woodford, and I’ll certainly be visiting the Fish bar as a matter of priority!
